Thank you to everyone who attended last week’s neighborhood meeting, and everyone who signed up for our mailing list!
We’re thrilled to see the commitment people have to supporting open space at our eastern gateway. About 130 people attended the developer’s neighborhood meeting on Feb. 27 and asked excellent questions. We have about 100 people signed up for our email list, and are adding names every day (tell your friends and neighbors!).
Many of you are asking what you can do to make the vision for open space at our eastern gateway a reality. It is early in the process, and we expect it will be more a marathon than a sprint. However, we have really hit the ground running! Here are a few ways that you can get involved:
1) We would love to hear your ideas. Would you like to meet as a group? Do you have expertise that would help? We could particularly use legal help pertaining to land use, for instance.
2) Contact city leaders. While city council members legally can’t discuss development plans with the public outside of a public hearing, there’s no prohibition on you talking to them about annexation plans. And city staff can discuss everything. The more they hear from us, the more they can tell the developer what we expect. There’s an easy way to send one email to council, the city administrator and the planning and building staff—just fill out this form:
Remember, we have a city council election in November, with four of the seven seats up for grabs.
3) Make a social media post. People who did this before the neighborhood meeting got many views and comments.
Finally, if you haven’t done it already, get out and take a look at this property! There’s a map of the two parcels under consideration for development on our website here:
You can start at Burlington Avenue and Emma Street, walk north along the gravel path on the east side of Burlington Avenue, and continue across Baseline all the way to the dog park.
Thanks again, and we look forward to hearing from you.
