Thanks again for signing up for Preserve Lafayette’s mailing list regarding the rural property at Baseline and 119th. Things are moving quickly, and we want to give you the latest updates.

Annexation petition underway. Texas developer Kairoi Residential has filed an annexation petition for this land with the city. You can see that petition and the supporting documents on the city’s new webpage for this development.

This annexation petition is the first step in the city’s lengthy annexation, rezoning and development process. Rest assured, it DOES NOT mean the city has to annex this land. It’s a legal step that shows the applicant is in compliance with the state’s annexation requirements and can begin submitting their development plans. You can read more about this process in the FAQ section on our website, PreserveLafayette.org.

The narrative that accompanies the annexation petition is worth a read. It doesn’t give any specifics about the developer’s plans. But it does state that the developer DOESN’T HAVE ALL OF THE WATER for whatever they hope to build.

Before the Lafayette city council votes on this annexation petition, there will be an opportunity to speak to them during public input. We don’t know the date for that yet, but we’ll alert you as soon as we find out.

Meeting recap. The city page for this development has a link to the recording and developer presentation for the neighborhood meeting held on Feb. 27.

Support at the county level. We’re now on the radar of Pro Rural Alliance, which is dedicated to protecting rural Boulder County land.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Share your input. We’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas about how best to ensure this eastern gateway to our city is preserved as open space. Would you like to meet to discuss this in person? We could also use legal expertise. Please respond to this email or put your comments in the contact form at PreserveLafayette.org.

Contact city leaders. While city council members legally can’t discuss development plans with the public outside of a public hearing, there’s no prohibition on talking to them about annexation plans. And city staff can discuss everything. The more they hear from us, the more they can tell the developer what we expect. There’s an easy way to send one email to council, the city administrator and the planning and building staff—just fill out this form.

Thanks VERY MUCH for your ongoing support, and we look forward to hearing from you.
